Cowboy Shootout

We completed a mini project to help us with practical skills on premiere pro and getting used to using lighting and the camera. We shot multiple takes of scenes to get the right ones to go into the video. I used a variation of close up shots including both the medium close up and the extreme close up. I also used the Dutch tilt to show tension in the scene. We did try to use the green screen but the lighting wasn't correct so we couldn't edit it. We also had to make everything black and white in post to show an old fashioned theme in the video. With it being a cowboy shootout I had to use the cowboy shot to show the guns (Dettol Spray) and the tension in the scene. I worked very well with the people in my group and they were easy to co-operate with. They were very helpful and came up with many ideas
Production Technical Skill Development

I did this video to learn new camera angles and different parts of cinematography. This video shows the more complicated shots to learn so it helps me remember them better.
I now know how to use Premiere Pro to a decent ability and made this video using the software. I added variations of transition. This will help me in the Better Health campaign for making TV adverts. I used the tripod and managed to set it up pretty easily as I own the same one at home. I also used the rule of thirds and different camera settings to capture the shots.

I looked at directors such as Quentin Tarantino who uses wide variations of shots in his work especially in Inglorious Basterds where Quentin Tarantino uses the pedestal shot.

This is one of my favorite types of shots as it could convey different types of power dynamics. For example someone with more power may be higher up on the pedestal shot whereas someone with less power will be lower down on the pedestal shot as shown on this scene.

I also looked at different types of equipment used in Cinematography. One of my favorite is a Steadicam used in this scene from The Wolf Of Wall Street.

It is used cleverly as the scene starts with the main character Jordan Belfort and shifts focus to the rest of the office as Jordan walks and talks through the office. The focus then comes back to Jordan Belfort as he continues to talk drawing your attention back to his voice. It is even more clever as Jordan mentions 'I know you're not following what I'm saying' which ties in with what we see on screen as there is no full clarity of what is actually going on in the office.
